An evidence package combines a cover, a summary of events, a tabbed exhibit index, and your chosen exhibits into one court-ready document, built from the files already on the matter.
Before you start
Your exhibits come from the Matter files tab, so it pays to have the file tidy first. Upload what you need, arrange it into folders if that helps you find things, and confirm the documents you plan to rely on are actually there. A well organized file makes choosing exhibits quick.
Building the package
- Start the build. Use Generate document on the matter and choose the evidence package.
- Fill in the cover. Add the client details and the court file, and choose your client's role. Picking Applicant or Respondent fills the style of cause the right way around, as covered in the style of cause article.
- Write the summary of events. Set out what happened, in order. Type it yourself, or if your firm has the AI assistant turned on, draft a first version and then edit it. The AI step is optional: the package builds fine with a summary you write by hand.
- Choose and order the exhibits. Select files from the matter and put them in the order you want. Each exhibit carries a tab number, a tab name, the file name, a date, and a description.
- Generate. The build runs in the background, and the status moves from queued to processing to ready. This keeps a large package from tying up your browser.
- Review, then save. When the preview is ready, look it over. If it is right, save it to the matter so it is stored with the file's other documents. If not, discard it and adjust.
Generating does not save. The build is staged as a preview first, and a copy is only written to the matter when you choose to save. So an abandoned draft never clutters the file. Review, then save.
What ends up in the package
The finished package brings together the cover details, the summary of events, the exhibit index built from your tabs, and the exhibits themselves in the order you set. Office documents among your exhibits are converted so they sit in the package like any other page.

Spend the time on your exhibit descriptions and tab names. They are what the reader scans first, and a clear index makes the package easier for a judge or opposing counsel to follow.
