Getting Started as a New A1 CMS Client: First Login, Portal Setup, and What to Expect

If your service provider recently told you they use A1 CMS to manage client work, you may have received a login link and not been sure what to do with it. This article walks through what the onboarding process looks like from your side, what your provider sets up before you arrive, and how to make the most of the portal from day one.

What Your Service Provider Sets Up Before You Log In

Before you ever see the portal, your provider builds your account. They enter your contact details, open your file or matter, configure which documents and requests are visible to you, and set the permissions that determine what you can see and do. They may also preload any intake documents you submitted, existing invoices, or early-stage approval requests.

This means that when you log in for the first time, your dashboard is not empty. There is usually already something there waiting for your attention, whether that is a document to review, a status update on your matter, or a pending invoice.

How to Access Your A1 CMS Client Portal for the First Time

Your provider will send you a login link, typically by email. That link takes you to a registration or login screen. If it is your first time, you will set a password during that first visit. Once you are in, you land on your personal client dashboard.

The portal is browser-based. You do not need to download anything. It works on desktop and mobile, so you can check in from wherever you happen to be.

If you did not receive a link, ask your provider to resend the invitation. It sometimes lands in a spam or promotions folder.

What You Will See on Your A1 CMS Client Dashboard

The dashboard is organized around the work your provider is doing for you. Depending on what your provider has configured, you will typically see a combination of the following:

  • Open matters or active files, with current status
  • Shared documents waiting for your review or signature
  • Pending approvals you have not yet responded to
  • Open support tickets or outstanding requests
  • Invoices and payment records
  • Upcoming milestones or deadlines relevant to your file

Not every section is visible to every client. Your provider controls which modules are active for your account based on the nature of the work and the plan they are using.

How to Navigate Requests, Documents, and Open Items

The portal uses a tabbed or sectioned layout that separates work types. Approvals are grouped together so you can see at a glance what needs your response. Documents sit in their own area, organized by file. Billing has its own section where you can review invoice details, see what has been paid, and access receipts.

When something requires your action, the portal makes that visible without burying it in a thread of messages. You click through to the item, take the action, and the system records it immediately. Your provider sees the response on their side without any additional communication required.

Setting Up Notifications and Staying Updated in A1 CMS

A1 CMS sends automated notifications when something changes on your file. A new document gets shared, an approval request comes in, an invoice is generated, or a status update is logged: you receive a notification in each case. These typically go to the email address your provider registered for you.

If you are not receiving notifications, check your spam folder first. If they are not there, contact your provider and ask them to confirm the email address on file. They can also resend any pending notification from their side.

What to Do If You Cannot Find Something in the Portal

Because your provider controls what is visible in your portal, there may be documents or details you expect to see that have not been shared yet. This is common early in a matter when work is still in progress and items have not been formally released to the client view.

If something is missing that you expected to see, the most direct approach is to ask your provider to share it through the portal or to submit a support ticket through the platform itself. Logging the request through the portal creates a record and a response timeline, which is generally faster than a standalone email.

A Note on How the Portal Reflects Real Work

The portal updates as your provider updates it. If your file status has not changed since you last logged in, it means either nothing has changed yet or your provider has not logged the update. The portal is only as current as the team using it. If you feel the portal is not reflecting recent activity, a support ticket is the right channel to flag it.
