Knowing who clicks your links

A screen displaying click analytics charts and visitor metrics

A tracked link is a short link that counts every visit, so you can see whether anyone opened the page you sent.

How it works

Head to Tracked Links, then Links, and create one: paste the destination URL and you're done. Optionally add a custom short code so the link reads nicely, plus a campaign, tags, an expiry date, or a description for whoever owns it. Every link in the list has a copy button, so sharing it is one click.

From then on, every visit is logged. For each link you'll see total clicks, unique visitors, repeat clicks, and the referrers sending people your way. When location data is available, you also get country and city. Per link analytics break it all down day by day: date, total clicks, unique visitors, repeat clicks.

The Analytics overview rolls everything up across links: clicks by country on a map, top cities, clicks per campaign, top sources, and a daily history. Campaigns are just named groups of links, so a spring newsletter can be measured as a whole instead of link by link.

  1. Create the link. Destination URL is the only thing you need; everything else is optional polish.
  2. Share it. Copy the short URL into your email, letter, or website.
  3. Check back. Watch clicks and unique visitors climb in the Links list, and open a link's analytics for the daily story.

Links have an on and off switch, and an expiry date if you set one, so a time limited link quietly stops redirecting when its moment passes. You can switch it back on later without changing the short URL.

Clients get a view of their own too: My Links in the portal lists the links that belong to them, with click totals and an Analytics button for each. Useful when you're running tracked links on a client's behalf.

💡

Use campaigns from day one. A month in, "which mailout actually worked" is a one-glance answer in Analytics rather than something you have to reconstruct manually.
