Matter files

Legal documents and correspondence gathered on a matter file

Every matter has one place for its documents: the Matter files tab. Pleadings, correspondence, exhibits, all belong here.

How it works

Open the matter and go to Matter files. Add files and Add folder cover uploads from your computer, and New folder lets you build whatever folder structure suits the file. Beyond keeping things tidy, the structure matters later: when you assemble an evidence package, you choose exhibits from these files.

Picking from cloud storage

If your firm has Connected Storage set up, three more buttons appear next to the upload ones: Add from Dropbox, Add from Google Drive, and Add from OneDrive.

  1. Click the button for your provider. The provider's own file picker opens, so you browse your cloud files the way you are used to.
  2. Pick the file. It is fetched for you in the background, no manual download and re-upload.
  3. Find it with everything else. The file is stored alongside the matter's other files and behaves exactly like a direct upload from then on.
💡

What arrives is a copy. The original stays untouched in your cloud account, and the matter keeps its own file, so the record is complete even if the cloud copy later moves or is deleted.

💡

Only seeing the plain upload buttons? Connected Storage has not been connected for your firm yet. Once it is, the cloud buttons appear on their own.

What else lands here

The Files tab is not just for things you upload yourself. When you run Import Data with a source PDF, the PDF is saved here tagged Imported source document, so extracted data always traces back to the document it came from. And when a generated document is finished and you choose Save to matter, the result is stored here too.

The matter's document history stays in one place: what came in, what was extracted from it, and what was generated from it.
