Start a matter from a lead with AI

Organized matter files opened from a client inquiry

A lead carries a Start matter action. It reads the inquiry and opens a matter for you, with every extracted detail shown for your review before anything is saved.

How it works

  1. Open a lead and go to its Start matter tab.
  2. Choose Start a matter with AI. The lead's details and any attachments are read, a new matter is opened under the client, and the extracted facts are laid out on the review screen.
  3. Review and confirm. Parties, court, dates, and the rest are shown as suggestions. Accept, correct, or discard each one. Nothing is written to the matter until you confirm.

What it does behind the scenes

If the lead was already converted to a customer, that customer is used. Otherwise the client record is created quietly from the lead, without sending a portal welcome email, because opening a matter internally is not the same as inviting the client to the portal. The matter is opened as a legal file so it appears under Matters, and the reading step only proposes values; the confirm step is what saves them.

💡

Start a matter with AI needs your own AI key, added under Settings, AI. Until a key is added, the Start matter tab explains that AI is not connected, and no matter is opened from the lead. You can still open a matter yourself from Matters, Matter Intake.
