Watching a cloud folder

A laptop monitoring a shared cloud folder for new documents

A watch monitors one folder in your cloud storage and imports new files into a matter or a client's file area for you. It's useful when clients or co-counsel drop documents into a shared folder.

Setting up a watch

  1. Open Setup, then Connected Storage. Scroll to Watched folders. You'll need a connected storage account first.
  2. Pick the storage and the folder. Choose the provider, click Choose folder, and select the folder in the provider's picker.
  3. Choose where files should land. Under Import into, pick Project or matter, or Customer, then select the destination record.
  4. Click Watch folder. The watch appears in the list with its folder, destination and last sync time.

When files come in

How oftenChecks run in the background, at most once every 15 minutes per folder.
Per checkUp to 20 new files are imported.
Bigger dropsAnything past the cap comes in on the next check. Nothing gets skipped.
DuplicatesFiles already imported to that destination are recognised and left alone.
In a hurryUse Sync now on the watch's row to check immediately.

If one file fails, the error shows under the folder name in the list and the watch carries on with the rest. Files imported by a watch are not shared with the client automatically.

A watch runs on the storage connection of the person who created it. If that connection ever needs a reconnect, the watch pauses and says so in the list; reconnect the account on the same page and it picks up where it left off.

📋

Google Drive works a little differently: a Drive watch only sees files that were opened or picked through this app. Google hides the rest of the folder from it. OneDrive and Dropbox watches see everything in the folder.

Stopping a watch

Use Stop watching on the watch's row. That only ends future checks: everything already imported stays exactly where it is.
